Looking Back - SLUG 2013

The Sri Lanka University Games 2013, also known as SLUG 2013 came to a close last week with the hosts, University of Moratuwa winning the overall championship. This festival of sports is a very important event in the university community and stands apart from all other inter-university sports competitions. 14 universities competed in 35 events under 22 sporting categories in this year's games.

“All is well, safely rest, peace is nigh...” - The Closing Ceremony of SLUG 2013

The closing ceremony of the 11th Sri Lanka University Games, more commonly known as the SLUG, was held today at the University of Moratuwa (UoM) grounds, marking the end of another legendary inter university sporting event.

So far in SLUG 2013

On completion of 70% of the sporting events at SLUG 2013, University of Moratuwa is leading the score board; University of Colombo is standing second with a gap of 7.5 points separating them, which is closing in each day. In contrast to the points score, University of Sri Jayewardenepura is on top of the medal standings with 16 gold medals from the men’s and one from women’s category.

UOC Colours Awards Ceremony

The Colours Awards Ceremony of Univeristy of Colombo was held on the 30th of April 2013 at the BMICH to celebrate their achievements in the year 2012. It was an evening of celebration, where all sports men and women who excelled were awarded colours in recognition of their contribution towards university sports.

The University Mini Olympics Declared Open By the President

The 11th Sri Lanka University Games (SLUG) was inaugurated by the President of Sri Lanka his Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa, on the 2nd of May 2013, at the opening ceremony held at the University of Moratuwa. This was also attended by the Minister of Higher Education Hon. S.B. Dissanayake, The Vice Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa (UOM) Prof. Ananda Jayawardena, the president of Sri Lanka University Sports Association (SLUSA) Prof. Sohan Wijesekara and various other dignitaries.
