Efac and FIT excel at Inter-Faculty Scrabble Tournament 2020

Determining to revitalize the present scrabble players while adding new blood, the Inter-Faculty Scrabble Tournament 2020 of the University of Moratuwa was successfully concluded on the 1st of March. The Tournament was organized by the collaboration of the present and past scrabbler players of the University of Moratuwa.

As usual, the venue for the inter-faculty scrabble tournament was Old Gymnasium of the University of Moratuwa. The tournament was commenced at 8.00 a.m. on Sunday 1st of March. The tournament was started by the participation of the scrabble players of all four faculties, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Architecture and Faculty of Information Technology of the University of Moratuwa. 

The games started after the draw. A total of 4 rounds were conducted on an individual basis using the Swiss pairing system for both Men and Women categories.

Four spot prizes were achieved by scrabble players during all four rounds. Rifat Mahamood, Varatharajah Amirthavarman and Vidura Wijesekara won the spot prizes respectively in round 1,2 and 3. Mohamad Rifat once more grabs the spot prize for the fourth round for word only with vowels. Prize for the highest word score was achieved by Ravidu Prabhathiya Herath in men category with 140 points and Piumi Dilshara in women category with 100 points. The highest game score was marked as 643 by Ravindu Prabhathiya Herath (Male category) and 530 by Adhithya Melagoda (Female category).

After a closed-run battle of words, ‘E-Fac’ conquered the overall Men Championship and Faculty of Information Technology grab the overall Women Championship. Following shows a snapshot of overall achievements during the entire tournament.
