Tharushi Karunarathna concluded her Olympic journey in the women's 800m repechage round. Competing in Heat 4, she clocked a time of 2:06.66, finishing in 7th place and ranking 27th out of 31 athletes. The heat was won by Germany's Majtie Kolberg, who crossed the finish line with an impressive time of 1:59.08.
Although Tharushi did not advance further, her participation in the Olympics at such a young age is a testament to her potential and dedication. Born in 2004, Tharushi remains the only athlete representing the Asian continent in the women's 800m event. We believe that this fact alone is worthy of celebration for all of Asia.
As she continues to grow as an athlete, there is great hope that she will shine at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. We wish her all the best in her endeavors and look forward to witnessing her progress in the years to come.
