From the 25th to the 27th of August, the prestigious SLUG 2023 Badminton Tournament unfolded with grace and fervor at the distinguished University of Colombo, culminating in a resounding success. This highly-anticipated event showcased the pinnacle of badminton excellence, featuring two dynamic categories, Men's and Women's, each comprising four formidable teams in the preliminary round.
Men's Category
In the Men's Category, Team A witnessed the formidable presence of the University of Ruhuna, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Following intense matches, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura emerged as the triumphant champions, while the University of Ruhuna secured the Runner-Up position.
Team B showcased the outstanding skills of the University of Kelaniya, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, University of Vavuniya, and the University of Visual and Performing Arts. The University of Kelaniya displayed extraordinary prowess, clinching the championship title. Wayamba University of Sri Lanka secured the Runner-Up position, earning a coveted spot in the quarter-finals.
Team C featured another set of fabulous teams with the presence of the University of Colombo, University of Jaffna, Eastern University of Sri Lanka, and South Eastern University of Sri Lanka. In a fierce competition, the University of Colombo and the University of Jaffna emerged as the winners, both advancing to the quarter-finals.
Team D saw the representation of the University of Moratuwa, University of Peradeniya, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, and Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine. The University of Moratuwa showcased its badminton prowess, claiming the championship title, while the University of Peradeniya secured the Runner-Up position under Team D.
The Men's quarter-finals witnessed thrilling matchups, leading to University of Colombo, University of Moratuwa, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and University of Kelaniya advancing as semi-finalists after captivating battles.
In the exhilarating semi-finals, University of Moratuwa overcame University of Sri Jayewardenepura with a resounding score of 3-0, securing their place in the finals. University of Kelaniya emerged as the other finalist, triumphing over University of Colombo with a score of 3-1. University of Colombo and University of Sri Jayewardenepura competed fiercely for the third-place honour.
The highly anticipated Men's Finals and Consolation Finals marked the culmination of the event, with University of Moratuwa earning the gold, University of Kelaniya the silver, and University of Colombo the bronze.
Women's Category
In the Women's Category, Team A featured the stellar performances of the University of Peradeniya, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. University of Sri Jayewardenepura emerged as the champions, with the University of Peradeniya securing the Runner-Up position and securing their positions in the quarter-finals.

In the grand finals, University of Sri Jayewardenepura emerged as the Women's Champions, with University of Colombo securing the Runner-Up position. In the Consolation Finals, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka claimed the 2nd Runner-Up position, surpassing University of Kelaniya.
