Unbeaten Jaffna enters into the SLUG Cricket finals after fifteen years

The unbeaten Jaffna team lead by Ravi Lohathiesawar faced Agni at Rajarata grounds under bright sunshine which is rare nowadays across the country. Agni won the toss and elected to bat first. Chandrasiri scored 30 runs from 62 balls while Bandara scored 28 from 69 balls. R Lohathieswar , the captain of Jaffna team and Bandara bowled some great bowling spells and took 03 wickets each. Agni ended their innings with 125 runs at the end of 47 overs. Agni batsmen struggled throughout their innings thanks to some incredible bowling from Jaffna bowlers. No one was able to capitalize on starts they got.

In their reply Jaffna showed why they are the best team in the tournament by absolutely thrashing Agni. Kalkhogan started the proceedings with 54 runs in just 26 balls. Even though Pathirana bowled well and picked up 2 wickets, Jaffna completed the chase at the end of 18 overs.

Japura faced Rajarata at University of Moratuwa grounds. Rajarata won the toss and elected to field first.Jpura got a decent opening by scoring 41 runs for the fall of first wicket. But after that strong stand no one capitalized on the start and fell cheaply by playing some poor shots. Matheesha Neveendra Ruchith and Nuwan of Rajarata picked two wickets each. At the end of the 50 overs Japura scored 190 runs.

Jpura bowlers bowled attacking line and length and captured 2 wickets in quick successions. When the score was 15-2 Rain started to pour down so the officials postponed the remaining match to the next day. On the next day also Rajarata batsmen couldn’t use the bright overhead condition to greater effect. Apart from Vibodha and Rathnayake every other batsmen couldn’t register double digit score, so as a result of pathetic batting Rajarata crumbled to only 95 runs. Jpura won the match by 93 runs.
