• University of Moratuwa vs University of Ruhuna
• University of Sri Jayewardenepura vs University of Peradeniya
• University of Kelaniya vs Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka
It's fascinating to see that all the group winners from the preliminary rounds maintained their dominance throughout the quarterfinals, securing their spot in the Semi-finals.
Match 01: "Colombo Secures a Comfy win in the Quarters!"
•University of Colombo beats University of Wayamba (36:07)
University of Colombo displayed an outstanding performance in the XIV SLUG 2023 rugby Quarter final rounds. Wayamba, on the other hand, found themselves on the back foot right from the outset while Colombo secured an impressive final score of 36-7 showcasing exceptional skills and determination on the field.
After securing a comfortable win against Wayamba, Colombo's next challenge awaits in the semi-Finals against the record-breaking Japura team. Can Colombo secure their spot in the finals?
Match 02: "Moratuwa Edges Ruhuna in Close Encounter"
•University of Moratuwa beats University of Ruhuna (19:12)
In one of the most thrilling encounters of the Quarterfinals, Moratuwa & Ruhuna battled fiercely in a see-saw battle.
Ruhuna's attempt to win with 01 converted & 01 unconverted tries, was not enough to prevent Mora's from gaining a narrow win with 02 converted & 1 unconverted try.
Match 03: "Narrow win For Japura"
•University of Sri Jayewardenepura beats University of Peradeniya (14:07)
In a highly anticipated encounter, University of Peradeniya and University of Sri Jayewardenepura were locked in a fierce battle. It is worth emphasizing that University of Sri Jayewardenepura achieved an astonishing score of 135 points in the rugby preliminary rounds, setting a new record for the highest score in the entire SLUG history.
Despite University of Peradeniya's valiant efforts, University of Sri Jayewardenepura led by a converted try by half time. Peradeniya came out strong in the second half, but Jayewardenepura's defence was impenetrable. J’pura held on for a narrow 14:7 victory, securing their spot in the semi-finals against the University of Colombo. University of Peradeniya on the other hand will be disappointed with the loss as they couldn't make in to the Semi-finals as they did in SLUG XIII.
Match 04: "Kelaniya's Hard earned comeback!"
•University of Kelaniya beats Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka (14:08)
In a pulsating encounter, Kelaniya found themselves in the midst of a swinging match against Sabaragamuwa in the SLUG XIV 2023 Rugby Championship.
Initially, Kelaniya was losing 5-0 at halftime as Sabaragamuwa scored 01 unconverted try.
Kelaniya scored 02 converted tries in the second half to scrape into the lead, while Sabaragamuwa could only manage a penalty. The final score was 14-8, and Kelaniya had pulled off a narrow win.
This victory was a hard-earned win for Kelaniya. University of Kelaniya will now prepare to go head-to-head against the University of Moratuwa in the semi-finals on 06th August.
